This release is a marginal update, mostly consisting of performance increases, new hardware support, and security improvements. There are only a few new features.
Here are some highlights:
- NFS performance greatly improved
- NVMe support enabled by default
- Options for some common system hardening options added in the installer
- Support for several more ARM chips and single board computers based on them like the Raspberry Pi 2
- Improved protection for ping from network attacks
- Support for more wi-fi cards
- Support for newer RAID cards including 12Gbps controllers
- Sandboxing enabled by default in OpenSSH
- About a 3% increase in PPS (packets per second) through the pf firewall
- The bhyve hypervisor gained initial support for Windows guests
